In this blog, we’re excited to share updates on our latest fundraising efforts and initiatives. Your support means the world to us and is vital to achieving our mission. We hope you enjoy reading about the progress we’re making together!
Semibreve has been on a mission, with your invaluable support, to launch two brand-new initiatives as part of the Community Programme at the Newcastle Piano Festival. This festival is not just an event; it’s a melting pot of innovation, excellence, and diversity. It’s a home for local musicians to experiment, develop, and thrive with reliable and fairly paid work. It’s a launchpad for ambitious emerging artists, and it’s a place where children can experience the magic of live music excellence for the first time.
However, the state of music education in the UK is alarming. Recent studies reveal that music is being reduced in primary and secondary education, despite its proven educational benefits. Music is an essential part of STEAM education, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and emotional development. For the music industry to survive and flourish—a sector worth billions annually in the UK—we must nurture the next generation by investing in their musical education and ensuring a robust future for this vital industry.
Launching the Mentorship Programme
In March, we are proud to launch our Mentorship Programme, a cornerstone of the Community Programme. This initiative will pair emerging local artists with experienced mentors, offering one-to-one guidance, career development, and opportunities to build networks in the music industry. This programme is designed to nurture talent, encourage innovation, and support musicians as they take the next steps in their careers.
Fundraising Highlights
Our fundraising efforts have already made incredible progress towards making these initiatives a reality:
• Benefit Gala (Summer 2024): This elegant event brought together music lovers, local businesses, and supporters for an evening of live performances and community celebration. It raised vital funds to support our mission while highlighting the talent of the festival’s artists.
• Nutcracker Concerts (Winter 2024): These enchanting house concerts featured piano duets and storytelling, capturing the festive spirit while sharing the joy of music in an intimate setting. Thanks to the generosity of our audiences, these concerts alone raised over £1,000, which will go directly towards launching the Mentorship Programme.
Looking Ahead
Thanks to your support, we’re well on our way to creating a more inclusive, thriving musical community in the North East. Every pound you’ve contributed is helping us achieve our vision of providing opportunities for local musicians and giving children access to live music.
We can’t wait to share more updates as we continue this journey together. Thank you for being an essential part of our story!
